What would a young person do, knowing that following his instinct would most probably lead to his wretchedness? How does one differentiate between reality and dream? How frightened is one, knowingly deciding to take the same steps in life the second time as he did the first time? And last, but not least, if you were, at 40, given a second chance to go back in time halfway through your life, would you live another way? What would you do differently?

Myself, I do not believe this story. Six persons are persuaded of its truth; and the hope of these six is to convince themselves it was an hallucination. Their difficulty is there are six of them. Each one alone perceives clearly that it never could have been. Unfortunately, they are close friends, and cannot get away from one another; and when they meet and look into each other's eyes the thing takes shape again.

Nor can they realise that, as a result, Percy forms his own, amazing, philosophy about truth, faith, evolution and, yes, even ‘the meaning of life’.This children’s book ‘with a difference’ takes a whole new approach to exploring the ‘big’ issues of life from a non-adult perspective. 'The Philosopher's Joke' is a novel about six friends who meet a philosopher who offers them a proposition not to be missed. Jerome Klapka Jerome was born in Walsall, England in 1859. Both his parents died while he was in his early teens, and he was forced to quit school to support himself. In 1889, Jerome published his most successful and bestremembered work, 'Three Men in a Boat'. Featuring himself and two of his friends encountering humorous situations while floating down the Thames in a small boat, the book was an instant success, and has never been out of print. In fact, its popularity was such that the number of registered Thames boats went up fifty percent in the year following its publication.
