Characters such as Hilary the Happy Hippopotamus, Fanny the Flamingo and Julian the Jumping Giraffe conspire to prevent the Great Lion from winning. The Great Lion eventually learns that if he is to succeed he must become a team member and he finally wins his Gold Medal by taking part in a relay race.
