Excerpt from The Children's Hour: A Magazine for the Little Ones, May, 1874N o wonder Rosy looked 'at the empty cup with tears in her eyes, for coffee, was something she didn't have every day, i and her mother had sweetened this so nicely, and put such nice yellow cream in it, and there wasn't any more, she was' sure; and, oh dear! She couldn't help sob bing outright, thinking what a treat she'd missed. Mrs. Ray pitied Jber distress, though of course it was a trial to have her tablecloth stained, and she would have felt like scolding if it hadn't been an accident. The last drop had been drained out of the coffee-pot, or she would have given her little girl another cup. All she could do was to promise Rosy one the' next morning, and like a wise, thoughtful mother try and divert her. 5 For Mrs. Ray knew these little griefs are as keenly felt by children as graver enes by their elders. 'do you know* where coffee comes from, Rosy dear? Said she, softly.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
