Lewis Carroll, Noel Badrian, Leanne Yau, Becca Maggie, Graham Scott, Elizabeth Klett, Ron Altman, Linda Barrans, Spoken Realms

Audiobook (Spoken Realms, Nov. 1, 2019)
Presented by The Online Stage Sylvie and Bruno was the last novel completed by Lewis Carroll and was published in two parts. The first volume, which is the subject of this recording, appeared in 1889. The story is presented by an unnamed narrator, who oscillates between two worlds: a fantasy fairyland, populated by characters similar to those in Alice in Wonderland, and the real world environs of a small village by the sea, in which the narrator has taken up temporary residence for health reasons. The main characters are Sylvie and Bruno, fairies who are sister and brother, and Arthur Forrester and Lady Muriel Orme, who are romantically linked. The book contains episodes which recall the hectic nonsense of Carroll's best-known work, but also serious commentary on many social and religious issues. Because of its unusual structure and a strong tendency toward Victorian sentimentality, the work has not been held in high regard. However, it is of particular interest in that it reveals much more about the author and his attitudes than do his more popular works. Sylvie and Bruno, first published in 1889, and its second volume Sylvie and Bruno Concluded published in 1893, form the last novel by Lewis Carroll published during his lifetime. Both volumes were illustrated by Harry Furniss. The novel has two main plots: one set in the real world at the time the book was published (the Victorian era), the other in the fantasy world of Fairyland. While the latter plot is a fairy tale with many nonsense elements and poems, similar to Carroll's Alice books, the story set in Victorian Britain is a social novel, with its characters discussing various concepts and aspects of religion, society, philosophy and morality.BONUS :• Sylvie and Bruno Audiobook.• Biography of Lewis Carroll• The 19 Best Lewis Carroll Quotes.

The novel has two main plots; one set in the real world at the time the book was published (the Victorian era), the other in the fictional world of Fairyland. While the latter plot is a fairytale with many nonsense elements and poems, similar to Carroll's most famous children's book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the story set in Victorian Britain is a social novel, with its characters discussing various concepts and aspects of religion, society, philosophy and morality.Sylvie and Bruno Concluded continues the adventures of the many characters in the previous volume Sylvie and Bruno. The fairy-children Sylvie and Bruno are charming whenever they appear, their fairy companions such as the Professor delight in taking ideas to their logical (and humorous) conclusions, and many nonsense songs are sung. Meanwhile, the mortals (comprised of the unnamed narrator, the gracious Lady Muriel and the sententious Arthur) tend to become the vehicles for Carroll's regular sermons on morality and proper Christian values.
