Rebecca is interested in computers and science and Christopher, while good at school, is more active and sporting. One day at the beginning of summer they find something on the beach which, when shown to Christopher’s UNCLE DAVID at his church in Canterbury produces a very strange light show.Other people are interested in Christopher and Rebecca's find, including two very unsavoury characters and some Goblins. They are saved from a dangerous encounter by a trio of rescuers, including an elf and a dwarf. Who take them through a portal in their Uncle's Church to a different realm, where they are involved in a struggle between the forces of the Light, led by a wise magician, and the Dark, led by the thoroughly nasty Dark Lord. Christopher discovers that their find is very important object indeed, and that he has a vital mission to perform, while Rebecca, a talented computer geek, discovers that she also has an affinity for magic..The two friends must overcome many difficulties in the strange new realm before they are finally re-united with their parents in their own world.
