This is a non-fiction alphabetic text for Year 5 children, which provides a dictionary of materials which are recycled or reused in a different way. The book can be used in conjunction with other "Spotlight on Fact" resources to support literacy hour sessions focused on non-fiction alphabetic texts. It contains QCA cross-curricular links to Science (unit 5D), Geography (unit 16) and Art and Design (unit 5C).

The book can be used with other "Spotlight on Fact" resources to support literacy hour sessions focussed on non-fiction instructions texts. It features QCA cross-curricular links to Science (units 6C and 6D).

This Big Book is designed for whole-class teaching of non-fiction text types as required in the national Literacy Strategy. It provides large-format extracts from two of the "Year 6 Spotlight on Fact Core Texts". "Spotlight on Fact Big Book 6c" contains full colour, large-format pages reproducing extracts of the following Core Texts (actual page numbers given in brackets): "Biographical Dictionary of Recent Times" (pages 4-16, 19, 22-24, 27-28, 31-39, 42-44, 47-48); and "Sources for Biographies" (pages 5-15, 21-23).

This Teacher's guide provides full lesson guidance, assessment and support for using "Spotlight on Fact Year 3 Core Texts" and CD-ROM 3 in literacy hour. A range of photocopiable Activity Masters and Writing Frames are also included. "Spotlight on Fact Teacher's Resource Book 3" contains: full introduction to the "Spotlight on Fact" non-fiction writing series, including full details of resources available; 32 photocopiable activity masters and writing frames to support "Spotlight on Fact" lessons; full introduction and rationale of the ICT elements of the "Spotlight on Fact" series; detailed lesson plans to use with all eight "Spotlight on Fact Year 3 Core Texts" and the Year 3 ICT text "Volcanoes"; lesson plans that provide full coverage of all six NLS required non-fiction text types, plus alphabetic and authentic texts; detailed coverage of NLS objectives and Scottish curriculum links; and details of links with other subjects for each Core Text, including cross-referencing with QCA schemes of work.
