Most eighteen year old girls would be ecstatic to wake up to a cute boy in their bedroom, but Sage Weiss isn’t convinced he’s really there at all. That is, until he refuses to go away. She probably should have been worried about the fact that a strange man only she could see had somehow forced his way into her bedroom in the middle of the night. She probably should have been concerned when he proceeded to follow her. She should have been terrified, given the size of his muscles and the intensity of his gaze. But Sage wasn’t supposed to see him. She wasn’t supposed to know that he joined her on her car ride to school. She wasn’t supposed to know that he never left her presence that day. But she did. And that small detail is what changes everything. The strange man is the angel Gabriel, sent to watch over Sage because she was destined to be a prophet of Asteria, the Goddess of prophetic visions. There are prophets spread out all over the world, but Sage is the only prophet able to see her angel when he is in his veiled state. This is because Sage is not simply a prophet, but the Goddess incarnate. Though the angels are excited to have her back, Asteria’s return means a war with the fallen is coming. Sage is forced to leave her family and best friend behind to live in the safety of Aether where Gabriel can focus on her protection. Sage quickly learns that having visions isn’t really as fun as one might think and that being a Goddess isn’t all that glamorous.

During the summer of 2015, my family saved a baby bunny from the clutches of a crow. Unfortunately, the bunny was severely injured, and although we did everything we could for it, the bunny passed away. This unfair confrontation with mortality left me unable to sleep properly for weeks, so I turned to the one coping mechanism I use for all of my problems: writing. Later inspired by modernist authors, I took pieces of my writings and pieced together my first short story: SOLACE. This story is about a girl who's struggling with the idea of mortality, a boy who curses immortality, and the world which traps them both.
