This is a fantastic storybook, containing two specially extended titles from the "Young Reading" series, "The Story of Robin Hood" and "Adventures of Robin Hood". Re-live Robin's daring escapades with his Merry Men, and then find out about the men who might have inspired these stories. It also contains a fascinating, illustrated introduction to life in the Middle Ages, in a separate section at the back.

This work was published as a children's book, but would really be considered young adult and above. A lot of "thees" and "thous" in the writing and some violent scenes described. This is one of the truest works of the Robin Hood legend: (NOT a happily ever after story). This is what the later cartoon versions (animated or otherwise) left out. The Illustrations by Frank Godwin are spectacular in their execution. The book "Romulus" by Jacob Abbott nowadays is in the public domain, but a great work has been done by Publisher to this version to make an electronic book that contrasts favorably to the original version. A lot of errors that exist in the free versions have been corrected; proper navigation is available or shortly, the ASCII text has been converted into a proper e-book. It was not until about 1848 that he and his brother John Stevens Cabot Abbott embarked on the idea of doing a series of biography targeted to young people. His target audience was age "15 to 25", and the Abbott brothers eventually produced a set of biographies that were critically acclaimed, and widely read. Within a few years of their publication, the Abbott biographies became standard reference works of history, and were available in libraries throughout America. In addition to these series, Jacob Abbott wrote at least thirty additional children’s books, as well as many books and articles regarding education for the young, directed at parents and educators. He also wrote several explicitly Christian books, teaching the tenets of Christian theology and moral instruction to the young. Rob Roy (1817) is a historical novel by Walter Scott. It is narrated by Frank Osbaldistone, the son of an English merchant who travels first to the North of England, and subsequently to the Scottish Highlands, to collect a debt stolen from his father. On the way he encounters the larger-than-life title character, Rob Roy MacGregor. Though Rob Roy is not the lead character (in fact, the narrative does not move to Scotland until halfway through the book), his personality and actions are key to the novel's development.
