The remarkable discovery of an additional ring of Saturn, and the curious researches of M. Peters on the proper motion of Sirius, with several minor features, are noticed. There is, indeed, a purely mathematical branch of astronomy, which may be thoroughly mastered by the study of books alone, aided by actual practice in mathematical reasoning.
