  • Faithful

    Janet Fox

    Paperback (Speak, May 13, 2010)
Sixteen-year-old Maggie Bennet?s life is in tatters. Her mother has disappeared, and is presumed dead. The next thing she knows, her father has dragged Maggie away from their elegant Newport home, off on some mad excursion to Yellowstone in Montana. Torn from the only life she?s ever known, away from her friends, from society, and verging on no prospects, Maggie is furious and devastated by her father?s betrayal. But when she arrives, she finds herself drawn to the frustratingly stubborn, handsome Tom Rowland, the son of a park geologist, and to the wild romantic beauty of Yellowstone itself. And as Tom and the promise of freedom capture Maggie?s heart, Maggie is forced to choose between who she is and who she wants to be.

The bargain I made with the Queen of the Sidhe was supposed to keep us safe for one year. Her forces are forbidden to leave the Otherworld, giving us a chance to rebuild the Order of the Shamrock and figure out how we’re going to thwart her plans to conquer Ireland. But Maeve found a loophole in our agreement and she’s ready to go on the offensive again.Fear Dorcha, the Dark Man, has been sent to find the Dalcassian, the one man who knows how to enter the tower in Rath Solais and retrieve the Sword of Light, a weapon of devastating power. If Maeve gets her hands on it, she wins, it’s that simple. The Dalcassian just arrived here in Boston, and Fear Dorcha has orders to bring both of us back to the Otherworld. I can’t help Maeve get the Sword; she just wants to kill me herself, slowly. Now I only have until midnight tonight to find the Dalcassian, rescue my best friend from Fear Dorcha’s trap, and keep the Dark Man from dragging us all back to Maeve’s stronghold. I’ve never been so scared in my life, but if I don’t succeed, my friends will die and Ireland will fall to the Sidhe. I am the Defender of Ireland, proclaimed by the Stone of Destiny to be its Champion. Everyone is counting on me to save the day, but I don’t know if I can. I’m just a sixteen-year-old girl with a shamrock tattoo that’s supposed to bring me luck. Today, I wish it would bring me a little faith instead.

Hardcover (Books to Benefit, March 15, 2014)
From Wikipedia: Faithful is a book co-written by Stephen King and Stewart O'Nan. It chronicles exchanges between King and O'Nan about the Red Sox's 2004 season, beginning with an e-mail in summer 2003, and throughout the 2004 season, from Spring Training to the World Series. The book was dedicated to the memory of Victoria Snelgrove, an Emerson College student who was killed during the massive celebrations after the 2004 ALCS, when she was shot in the face with pepper pellets by police officers that had been improperly trained and had responded with excessive force. On May 4, 2007, the Boston Globe announced that HBO would be adapting it into a six-part miniseries for 2008. In September 2008, King wrote, "The script is just goddamn hilarious." Books to Benefit will publish a 10th Anniversary limited edition of the book in the fall of 2014, with at least 30% of the proceeds going to The Haven Foundation.
