They are modern fairy tales that teach children important concepts about the world we live in: global warming, nuclear power, renewable energies, corruption, refugees.Q: We hear that each book also has a non-fiction part?AF: Yes, each book has two parts. The first is the story itself. The second gives brief but easy-to-understand explanations of the most important concepts that were discussed in the story. Together they form a unique infotainment resource for children, a book that both educates and that children can relate to and enjoy.Q: Tell us something more about the main characters in The Rosemary Kids books.AF: They are a group of curious, intelligent kids. Rose and Mary are the main characters in all the books, but other children appear from story to story. In Nuclear!, it is Mary’s adoptive brother, Scooter, a boy from India, and Mrs Berry, an old lady who is very proud of her beautiful garden. In Summer Island, it is two children from Syria, Aysha and her little brother, Hosni. And all the books, of course, contain fairies. But the fairies never take over the action. It is always the children themselves who solve the problems and save the day.Q: What are your plans for the future?AF: The Rosemary Kids series has three books in the works already, and they will all be out by the end of April 2018. If the series is successful, I’d love to write more. It is so important to tell children about the world, and it’s not like I’ll be out of global problems to write about. But I’d also like to expand on the non-fiction part. To write a whole book about energy, for example, explaining in detail how nuclear power works, what the dangers are, and what we can do about them. The same about the refugee crisis in Europe, and the rainforest destruction in South America. These are all incredibly important issues to tell our children about, and I hope that I can do that in a way that is entertaining and fun!Q: Thank you for your time!AF: Thank you for your interest in the books!Text readability index: Grade Level: 3 (very easy to read). Reader's age: 8-9 yrs. (third and fourth graders).
