    Donna Brewer

Paperback (Tate Publishing, Sept. 29, 2015)
Good-bye for now. I'll see you in a little while" was what Dad would say to his wife and four daughters, Jackie, Dee, Bree, and Dana. This is a short story dealing with Dad being in the navy and going on military deployments for six months at a time, leaving his family behind. Mom and the girls often deal with a lot of changes and obstacles when Dad is away. These obstacles are usually taken care of when Dad is home, like fixing a flat tire or learning how to read a manual to repair the washing machine! As Dad is preparing to leave, he says, "Hold down the fort," meaning to take care of the Home Front." Sometimes it feels as though Mom is a single parent because of the different emotions and taking on all responsibilities while Dad is away. From the time Dad steps onto the deck of the departing ship, the family is overwhelmed with emotions of sadness, so the countdown is on for the anticipation of his return.
