Mom, Rose, Sammy, and their dog Jelly have no idea what’s in store for them when they meet Clever, a very well-spoken bird. Clever wants to go back to his home that’s “just across the river,” and the family agrees to take him. But Clever fails to mention which river they had to cross or just how far away his home is. Over several weeks of traveling south, Clever continually asks for unusual foods. When the family finally reaches Clever’s river, with long, sad faces, they say their goodbyes. The trip home is much quicker since they don't have to stop at each creek, stream or trickle of water along the way. When they drive up to their house, a huge surprise is waiting for them!

Paperback (Egmont Books Ltd, May 8, 2014)
Mr Clever was quite the cleverest person ever. The cleverest person in the world! And, he knew it! The Mr Men and Little Miss have been delighting children for generations with their charming and funny antics. Bold illustrations and funny stories make Mr Men and Little Miss the perfect story time experience for children aged two up. Have you met them all? It all started with a tickle. Roger Hargreaves' son Adam asked him what a tickle looked like. In response, Roger drew a small orange man with extraordinarily long arms that could reach anywhere and tickle anyone. Mr Tickle, the first of the Mr Men, was born. Mr Tickle was soon joined by Mr Greedy, Mr Happy, Mr Nosey, Mr Sneeze and Mr Bump. The books were an instant hit and Roger went on to create many more Mr Men and Little Miss characters. What Roger really wanted was to make children laugh, which is probably why his own favourite character is Mr Silly.
