A renowned NASA scientist, Sam Thiele, had developed a way to travel back in time, but his NASA boss wanted to move him onto a new project before he had perfected his Time Capsule.Sam had no option other than to agree, but he decided to continue work on the Time Capsule in his own time, at night, as he was so close to his ultimate goal of Time Travel. One night, working on the Capsule, he inadvertently triggered a break-in alarm which quickly brought a squad of Police Cars to the NASA Laboratory. In desperation, Sam Thiele jumped into the almost completed Time Capsule and locked it from the inside. The Police could not see how to open the Capsule, but began pressing buttons and pulling levers in complete ignorance of the outcome until the Time Travel sequence was begun. The Capsule went through the start up procedure, and disappeared right before their eyes. The Police Squad decided to say nothing officially of this, and left the Laboratory. This first trip in his Time Capsule was disastrous, but Sam's safety backup returned his naked and beaten body to the NASA Laboratory.Sam was put in hospital where he remained unconscious most of the time, but occasionally his body would disappear as the still functioning Time Capsule dragged him away to some fearsome adventures.
