In addition to Doug's illustrations for children, he enjoys working with a wide range of clients in the advertising, corporate and editorial communities. His work has been selected many times in the Society of Illustrators West competition, and he has had several gallery showings. Doug lives in Leawood, Kansas, with his wife and two children.

    Little Purple Plays Soccer is the third book of the Adventures of Little Purple stories about a chicken who faces challenges that children often face and she finds ways to overcome them. Being different and being slightly overweight are just some of her adversities. In Little Purple Plays Soccer, Little Purple joins a soccer team, the HIgh Flyers, but she finds herself sitting on the bench.. Her overly-zealous coach is very serious about winning and because Little Purple isn't very good at playing soccer, she doesn't get to play in the games. It is not fun sitting on the bench, so Little Purple decides to work harder and practice more.. The HIgh Flyers are down to their last game and Little Purple has yet to play in a single game. When the game is about to start, she is still sitting on the bench. In the end, her determination pays off.
