With her parents dead, the daughter of Cleopatra and Mark Antony is left at the mercy of her Roman captors. Heir to one empire and prisoner of another, Princess Selene must save her brothers and reclaim what is rightfully hers... In the aftermath of Alexandria's tragic fall, Princess Selene is taken from Egypt, the only home she's ever known. Along with her two surviving brothers, she's put on display as a war trophy in Rome. Selene's captors mock her royalty and drag her through the streets in chains, but on the brink of death, the children are spared as a favor to the emperor's sister, who takes them to live as hostages in the so-called lamentable embassy of royal orphans... Trapped in a Roman court of intrigue that reviles her heritage and suspects her faith, Selene can't hide the hieroglyphics that carve themselves into her flesh. Nor can she stop the emperor from using her for his own political ends. Faced with a new and ruthless Caesar who is obsessed with having a Cleopatra of his very own, Selene is determined to honor her mother's lost legacy. The magic of Egypt and Isis remain within her. Can she succeed where her mother failed? And what will it cost her in a political game where the only rule is win or die?
  • The Life of Lily

    Bethany Stack, Christina Mattsson

Hardcover (Rosedog Books, May 31, 2018)
The Life of Lily is inspired by a black lab named Lily. Lily spent the first few years of her life in a cage having litters of puppies. She was in poor health when she was rescued in 2015, but she received excellent care through Save a Lab Rescue and ultimately came to live in Vermont to recover. Lily's story highlights the reality of bullying which occurs in the animal world as abuse and mistreatment, but, unfortunately, it can also occur in a child's life. This story teaches us that with the support of trusting adults we can put an end to bullying. Happily, Lily's story ended well with her spending the rest of her life feeling safe and loved. About the Author Bethany Stack works primarily as a physician assistant in Vermont, specializing in orthopedics. In 2013, she began fostering dogs for Save a Lab Rescue and has fostered more that twenty-five dogs over the years. Because of her background in medicine, she has taken in several dogs with long-term medical or orthopedic issues with the goal of giving them the best chance of survival while they enjoy a peaceful life in Vermont. When she isn't working and writing, she enjoys hiking and snowshoeing with her five dogs, which includes Lily, the subject of this story. Christina Mattsson is a passionate, life-long outdoor educator. She specializes in the leadership of children's outdoor education programs and shares her love of snow sports, water sports, horseback riding, and mountain biking through the development of educational outlets for children of all ages. Christina loves to have her dog, Dexter, accompany her on her outdoor adventures. Dexter is a six-year-old rescued black lab and has lived with Christina for almost four years. The partnership that Christina and Dexter have had inspired her to write about other beloved dogs and their stories.
