Let us meet some of the all-time favourite mythical characters in “A Fantastic Journey”. Medusa, Leprechaun, dragon and Yeti jump out of the pages to enthrall the young reader. Vivid imagery coupled with simple language and style of writing will appeal to the mental faculties of children. The protagonists of the stories are little girls, boys or animals. Each story has a distinct plot and theme and, an international flavour. The stories have a moral lesson, but conveyed gently and through self-experience. The short stories are targeted at a reading audience of the age group between 7 and 12 years. The relationships depicted through the stories are strong, pure and unique. In the story, “A Strange Friendship”, a little boy adopts a baby dragon as his brother and the beast finds a human family. Similarly, in the story; “The Brave Duo Destroys the Spell of Evil”, a little boy and his sister who is an eagle together fight and destroy the evil Medusa. Stories such as, “A Brave Act” and “A Risky Adventure” have animals as protagonists. The stories embody the values of team spirit! “The story, “Downfall of Berry the Bully” is a tale of victory of good over evil… “A Lesson Well Learnt” narrates the transformation of two naughty and disobedient boys into well-behaved children! “Adventures of Chikki- the Buffalo” is poignant narrative of a baby buffalo’s journey to London. Similarly, “The Story of an Aeroplane” is a self-narration by an aeroplane! A unique relationship between a little girl and the mythical monster Yeti is woven in to the story-line of “Penny’s World of Dream”. A donkey finds his guardian angel in the Irish mythical character, the mischievous Leprechaun in “The Angelic Shoe-maker”. The personality of Leprechaun has been twisted! The stories, “A Kind Deed” and “My Best Friend, My Strength and My Mentor” portray heart-warming relationships between humans and animals. “A Fantastic Journey” is my first book and I hope that my young readers will be able to connect with these stories…
