  • Introduction to Analysis

    Maxwell Rosenlicht

Paperback (Dover Publications, March 15, 1986)
This well-written text provides excellent instruction in basic real analysis, giving a solid foundation for direct entry into advanced work in such fields as complex analysis, differential equations, integration theory, and general topology. The nominal prerequisite is a year of calculus, but actually nothing is assumed other than the axioms of the real number system. Because of its clarity, simplicity of exposition, and stress on easier examples, this material is accessible to a wide range of students, of both mathematics and other fields.Chapter headings include notions from set theory, the real number system, metric spaces, continuous functions, differentiation, Riemann integration, interchange of limit operations, the method of successive approximations, partial differentiation, and multiple integrals.Following some introductory material on very basic set theory and the deduction of the most important properties of the real number system from its axioms, Professor Rosenlicht gets to the heart of the book: a rigorous and carefully presented discussion of metric spaces and continuous functions, including such topics as open and closed sets, limits and continuity, and convergent sequence of points and of functions. Subsequent chapters cover smoothly and efficiently the relevant aspects of elementary calculus together with several somewhat more advanced subjects, such as multivariable calculus and existence theorems. The exercises include both easy problems and more difficult ones, interesting examples and counter examples, and a number of more advanced results.Introduction to Analysis lends itself to a one- or two-quarter or one-semester course at the undergraduate level. It grew out of a course given at Berkeley since 1960. Refinement through extensive classroom use and the author’s pedagogical experience and expertise make it an unusually accessible introductory text.

  • Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology Package

    Dr Tommy Mitchell

Hardcover (Master Books, July 25, 2016)
In this dynamic Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology course, students will not only begin to grasp the intricate workings of their bodies, but learn also of the wonders of the human body, designed by our Creator and loving Father. Nothing else in the universe is quite like it. The body is delicate yet powerful; incredibly complex but at times amazingly simple. Students will explore the structure, function, and regulation of the body in detail. Throughout the two volumes studied over the course of the year, students will learn things to do to keep the body healthy, though in a fallen, cursed world things are bound to go wrong. The human body is built from many kinds of cells and tissues, and students will learn how they work. We will look at what happens when disease or injury affects bones and muscles. Although the world insists that our bodies are merely the result of time and chance, as students examine the human body closely, they will see that it cannot be an accident. It can only be the product of a Master Designer. FEATURES: The calendar provides 5 lessons weekly with clear objectives, and the worksheets, quizzes, and tests are all based on the readings from the two books.

The following computer-generated description may contain errors and does not represent the quality of the book.Tkb necessity for a new edition of An Introduction to Astronomy has famished an opportunity for entirely rewriting it. As in the first edition, the aim has been to present the great subject of astronomy so that it can be easily comprehended even by a person who has not had extensive scientific training. It has been assumed that the reader has no intention of becoming an astronomer, but that he has an interest in the wonderful universe which surrounds him, and that he has arrived at such a stage of intellectual development that he demands the reasons for whatever conclusions he is asked to accept. The first two of these assnmptiona have largely determined the subject matter which is presented; the third has strongly influenced the method of presenting it While the aims have not changed materially since the lirst edition was written, the details of the attempt to accomplish them have undergone many, and in some cases important, modifications. For example, the work on reference points and lines has ben deferred to Chapter IV. If one is to know the sky, and not simply know about it, a knowledge of the co3rdinate systems is indispensable, but they always present some difliculties when they are encountered at the beginning of the subject. It is believed that the present treatment prepares ao thoroughly for their studj and leads so naturally to them that their mastery will not be found difficult The chapter on telescopes has been regretfully omitted because it was not necessary for nnderatandiog the remainder of the work, and because the space it occupied wap needed for treating more vital parts of the subject. The numerous diBcoveries in the sidereal universe during the last ten years have made it necessary greatly to enlarge the last chapter. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work.
