...is Wilson Hadley, 15, and so he is derogatorily referred to by certain of his classmates after he comes from his home in the Great Smokies to go to a big eastern high school, Tri City. Thad Coin, Tri City's star athlete and pitcher, is the only one who really means bad business for Wilson. But Wilson, a sensitive type, takes Thad's remarks as an indication of the whole school's attitude towards him. His baseball abilities, which are as natural as Thad's suffer until Steve, the team captain, Midge, a cheerleader and Coach Disher manage to draw out Wilson's common sense along with his good pitching technique.
