Her sister, Mila, has joined Denir, Hamil, Tanira, and Hamil's steward, Kennetton, to hunt the large and very dangerous animal, the charynd. These are their excuses for not attending Isryk's wedding. For the Greater Good, Camari uses the gauntlet in many ways along her journey. She encounters an evil troll named Alanack along the way and finds many ways to help people, as well as the gnomes. This book isn't over until it's over. Even after Camari and Isryk think they have completed their quest, they still have many dangers and challenges to overcome.

They must use the gauntlet and help from the Ice Maiden in order to defeat him. They still have Malleforest to cross. Even when they think their quest is over they still face several more challenges.
