Maria Perez Rodriguez likes to think of herself as a normal teenage girl. Rather, she wants to think she's a normal teenage girl. Unfortunately, Maria has been plagued by dyslexia and its social effects upon her ever since an incident in kindergarten. This seemingly demeaning quality about her is what makes her unique, but in a mortifying way. Dealing with the consequences of her condition can be tough, and she always struggles when she has to read something. Even though she is gifted in art as a result, she wishes she never had to live so terribly.But one day, Maria finds a blue diamond ring. The ring somehow vanquishes her so-called disability, and soon Maria can breeze through a book without any problems. So when her ring goes missing, she despairs over its loss. Then, she discovers a long-lost family secret that will haunt her life... is Maria really the conqueror she needs to be?The Conqueror is the touching story of a girl's fight to overcome her dyslexia and the subsequent events of her later life.
