PRIOR to this, no complete, authentic, and authorized record of the work of Mr. Edison, during an active life, has been given to the world. That life, if there is anything in heredity, is very far from finished; and while it continues there will be new achievement. The book throws a remarkable insight into the life of Edison starting from his childhood days. Edison genius was in the extraordinary effort that he put into all his inventions combined with his eye for detail and uncompromising desire for perfection. The book is a long read since it goes in to a lot of technical details of his inventions, however all the same brings out Edison's character very clearly.A good book to read if you know little about the extraordinary Thomas Edison. Published in 1910 and written by Frank Dyer, one of Mr. Edison’s patent attorneys while Dyer was employed by Mr. Edison, the book is an uncritical homage to Mr. Edison. Still there are wonderful stories told here, particularly of the young Tom Edison and particularly those stories told by Mr. Edison himself, which keep this book informative and entertaining.
  • Edison His Life and Inventions

Frank Lewis Dyer, Thomas Commerford Martin, D. Fog

eBook (Green Booker Publishing, Dec. 24, 2015)
Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor and businessman. He developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world, including the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and the long-lasting, practical electric light bulb. Dubbed "The Wizard of Menlo Park", he was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and large-scale teamwork to the process of invention, and because of that, he is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research laboratory. Written while Thomas Edison was still alive, this is the very first authorized and authentic record of his life and work. Written with his close collaboration, portions of this work were written by Edison himself and provide a detailed and semi-autobiographical record of his life and his inventions. Various illustrations, as well as an impressive list of patents have been included.

THE year 1847 marked a period of great territorial acquisition by the American people, with incalculable additions to their actual and potential wealth. By the rational compromise with England in the dispute over the Oregon region, President Polk had secured during 1846, for undisturbed settlement, three hundred thousand square miles of forest, fertile land, and fisheries, including the whole fair Columbia Valley. Our active "policy of the Pacific" dated from that hour.

He developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world, including the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and a long-lasting, practical electric light bulb. Dubbed "The Wizard of Menlo Park", he was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and large-scale teamwork to the process of invention, and because of that, he is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research laboratory.Edison was a prolific inventor, holding 1,093 US patents in his name, as well as many patents in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. More significant than the number of Edison's patents, are the impacts of his inventions, because Edison not only invented things, his inventions established major new industries world-wide, notably, electric light and power utilities, sound recording and motion pictures. Edison's inventions contributed to mass communication and, in particular, telecommunications.
