While the other children are sleeping, safely tucked up in their cosy beds at the abandoned hospital they call home, Cassie Cycle begins to practise for the performance of a lifetime. Leaping and flying through the air, a sudden ‘interruption’ leaves her in terrible pain, setting a chain of events crashing into motion. With only days to go until the show, the mysterious inhabitants of the abandoned hospital are left wondering who on earth can backflip into her talented shoes at such short notice.Meanwhile, across town, Edward and Nicky Dealer are enjoying the summer holidays, blissfully unaware that Nicky is about to disappear. With their mother away on a business trip and the telly loving au-pair distracted by thoughts of becoming a star, Edward has no other choice than to turn detective. Following a confusion of clues, he encounters a cast of characters who help and hinder him in equal measure. From a strange little old lady called Mrs Cabbage and her postcard-licking puppy to a disappointed Cucumber and a pair of argumentative Grouchers, Edward struggles to piece things together.Elsewhere, Nicky is wondering whether to follow his dreams or make a run for it!Disappearing Act is a romping race against time with plenty of mistaken identities, mishaps, mix-ups and mystery, not forgetting detection, deception, disaster, disguise and daredevil dogs. A caper that will keep you turning the pages to its nail-biting, nerve-shredding finale.
