Also your hands are stuck up in front of your face as if you were doing a Frankenstein impression. You can tell this is going to be one of those days. You try again. “RaArrrrrrrrgh”, you hear yourself say. Wow, you must have a cold, because you sound like your dad. Your dad when he wakes up in the middle of the night. And your hands, by the way, are still sticking right out in front of you, they won’t go any higher. You’ve never liked mornings. This morning is not changing that. You sit up on the bed and look around. Your eyes must be blurry, because everything looks kind of blocky and pixelated. It’s probably time to start the day.Do you want to get up and go to the bathroom, or roll over and get back to sleep? What are you waiting for? Read it now!

You're not the first player to be trapped here, the golem tells you, there was one other…They were able to get home, but only by going to that dangerous realm they call… The End.Do you have what it takes to solve the maze and find the End portal? And even if you do, how will you find the ender pearls you need to activate it? There are many stories to find in this book: a hilarious, old, blind lady, a clueless gang of endermen, a very paranoid shopkeeper, and so much more. And as always… you choose!ExcerptChosen One? The words bounce around the inside of your head. What does he mean? You stare up at the Elder Golem whose stone face doesn’t make his words any less mysterious.Chosen One?It had been a pretty confusing day. Probably the most confusing day in your whole life. You’d woken up as a zombie. And not just any zombie. A zombie in a game… A zombie in Minecraft. You’d been hurried out the door by a bossy skeleton who apparently could talk?! That was confusing enough. And you’d met creepers who apparently didn’t want to blow up players but just got so excited about being around them that they literally blew up. Very confusing. And then you’d been told some confusing story about someone who’d gotten stuck in the game before and been confusingly brought to this place, with this monstrous golem who was supposed to help you get home. And somehow, him saying ‘Chosen One’ was still the most confusing thing that had happened all day. Well if not the most confusing. At least a very close second. Maybe he’d made a mistake. Maybe you’d misheard him. Maybe he’d said ‘frozen bun’ or ‘Cho and Juan’ or ‘crows in nun’. Actually… now that you think about it, that might be more confusing. “Excuse me, Mister Golem,” you say, “did you just say Chosen One?”The golem raises one massive, stony eyebrow and frowns. It makes the sound of a small earthquake. “Oh no,” you panic, “was it ‘frozen bun’?” He doesn’t look very impressed. “Ha, ha,” you say nervously. “No, of course it was ‘Cho and Juan’. Duh.”Both his mossy eyebrows narrow to a point in the middle of his forehead. It makes the noise of a slightly bigger earthquake. What is he thinking?, you ask yourself silently. It is impossible to read that big, stony face. Slowly the golem opens his giant mouth to speak. “Who’s Juan?” he says with a voice of pouring gravel. You squint at him, not knowing what to say. After a second, he gets over it. With an ear-splitting grinding noise, the elder golem turns on his heel. “Come Chosen One, there’s no time to waste. We have to send you home,” he says and begins to walk off. Each step vibrates the ground beneath your feet.Do you follow the golem, or tell him that you're not the 'Chosen One'?Make your choice and continue the story inside!

Yes!” Logan shouted. “Haha, you noobs,” he said, pointing at the other kids playing nearby on the playground. “We’ve got diamonds and you dooooon’t!”“Oh boy,” Aya said. “Yeah…” Owen agreed. He watched as Henry and Logan stood together talking about the diamond pickaxes they were planning to make. “Hey,” Aya snapped her fingers twice next to Owen’s ear. “Wiring?”“Oh.” Owen examined the right side of the doorframe, where Redstone wiring ran to a dispenser on top of the wall. Aya was better at this stuff than Owen. She was probably only asking to be nice. “Looks good,” he said and then pointed her phone up at the dispenser. “But what is that—”“Great!” Aya grabbed back her phone as Owen watched it go. “Hey Logan!”The boy turned, looking confused. “What?”“That’s not a lot of diamonds. That’s nothing. I’ve been collecting a ton of diamonds,” she said. “Here.” Aya tapped on her phone to invite Logan and Henry to the buildplate for the fort. “I put them all in this chest,” she said. “Take a look.”Logan raised an eyebrow at Henry and then walked toward Aya. Henry trailed behind, looking sideways at Owen. “You don’t have diamonds,” Logan said to Aya. “You have to do lots of adventures, and you don’t really—”Aya snickered and gestured at the chest in the center of the walled area. “Well then, how did all these diamonds get in this chest?” Logan came marching toward the double-doors and the wooden box past them. He stepped onto the block right in front of the doors which compressed slightly as he did. “That’s a pressure plate—” Owen started to say.And then the dispenser overhead spat out a stream of lava right over Logan’s head. It flowed over him and pooled on the ground at his feet. Aya cackled. “Hey!” Logan said. His character had ‘died,’ and he’d been kicked off of the buildplate and could no longer see the fort. “Hey! You—” Aya couldn’t stop laughing. Even Owen sniggered. “Whatever…” Logan said, trying not to look annoyed. “I knew you didn’t have diamonds anyway!”Aya was too busy laughing to bother with a comeback. The boys stomped away as Aya slowly came back to her senses. “Oh, man!” she said finally. “I love this game.”

  • Choose Your Own Minecraft Story: The Zombie Adventure 3: Plunge into the Nether

    John Diary

Paperback (Independently published, Dec. 12, 2017)
There's only one place to find the blaze rods you need to finish the portal that will take you home: the land of fire and stone known as… the Nether! In the next instalment of the best-selling series, you take your journey to one of the most dangerous places in the world of Minecraft. The nether is full of fire, floating islands, oceans of lava. Even the stones on the ground are on fire here! And the citizens of this realm are no more friendly. There's a tribe of zombie pigmen that can't decide whether they want to make you their king or sacrifice you to the volcano… And a gang of very bored, and very irritated blazes who will turn you into a pile of ash if you even breath wrong. And just when you thought it couldn't get worse, you've been tasked with babysitting a villager kid who's scared of his own shadow. How could things get any worse!? This will be your hardest challenge yet! You've had two books to practice, now apply everything you know about Minecraft to choose your way through the stories in this book, and see if you can find those blaze rods and get out alive! Excerpt You stand beside the old woman at the top of the stairs, looking down at the pool of lava beneath you. Actually, it’s the square of strange stone blocks above the pool that interests you. Each one has an open socket in it, begging to be filled. I’m working on it, you think. This is an end portal, or it will be once you fill those open sockets with the Eyes of Ender that they desire. And then you can leap through the portal and go to the End and then, maybe, finally, you’ll be able to go home. You look down at your zombie hands. It’s hard to get used to being a zombie and it’s not necessarily your favourite thing in the whole world. The worst part is the nagging desire to eat everybody that you see. You look over at the old woman. She is staring out at the pool of magma thoughtfully. Friend, not food, you remind yourself. “Isn’t it beautiful?” she says, as you lick your lips. You quickly wipe your mouth and straighten up. “Mhhm, yes,” you say quickly. And then you think about it. “Wait, you can’t see,” you remind the old villager. She turns to you with an unimpressed look. “Yes, I know that, but I mean the idea of it, the power of it. It’s a portal that takes you to a different world!” She raises her hands into the air as she talks. “Isn’t that beautiful?” You bite your green lip. “Well, you know, I actually come from a totally different world that isn’t like this one at all,” you say. “Everything isn’t so blocky like this, I mean it’s really different. And I just fell asleep playing Minecraft one night and woke up here. So, portals between worlds are kind of boring for me…” “Fine,” she says, looking unimpressed. “You’re kind of a party pooper Rotney, did you know?” A little smile tugs at the corner of her lips. You still aren’t used to people calling you by your zombie name, it feels weird. “Hey!” you say indignantly, but you’re not really bothered. The old villager, Madame Mole, doesn’t mean you any harm. She’s already helped you out a bunch and she’s about to help you some more. She’s doing all she can to get you home. She brought you here because she said that she had something for you that might help on your journey. Madame Mole turns and stares out again over the portal. You tap your foot a bit and look around. The elder golem from earlier is still standing in the room, totally still like a statue. That guy’s weird, you think. Do you wait for Madame Mole's help to arrive, or do you head out on your own? Make your choice and continue the story inside!

You get what I’m saying…Steve slowly opened one eye and then the other. A cool breeze brushed past his face as he looked out to the horizon and saw something very strange. The mountains in the distance ended all of a sudden, like they had been chopped in half by a mountain-sized knife. Steve could see underground even! Far away lava flowed in these giant empty pits in the ground and Steve could see caves deep beneath the earth and in the bellies of the chopped in half mountains. It was almost as if he’d caught the world with its pants down and when the world noticed he was looking, it fixed everything really fast. The world must have been very embarrassed.“Did I imagine it?” Steve asked no one in particular. No one in particular answered. Instead of giant pits and cut-in-half mountains, there were cheery fields around Steve now. There were mysterious forests to his left and soaring mountains to his right.“Hello world,” Steve said. “Sorry about surprising you.”Wind blew through the trees and the sun shone brightly. Steve was pretty sure that was the world saying ‘hello’ back. “Hello trees and hello grass. Hello water and hello hills.” Steve looked down at a block of dirt that was sticking out of the ground near his feet. “Hello block,” he said. The block of dirt didn’t say anything.“You’re shy, that’s okay,” said Steve. He punched at the block of dirt, digging it out of the ground. “Come with me block,” he said. “Blocky… that’s what I’ll call you.” He put the block lovingly in his backpack and as he did, he noticed there was something else already inside the very empty pack: a picture.
