It's the dream of a lifetime - a cruise to the Baltic capitals for Charlie Piper, Jess Tidy, and their families. What a pity, then, that their old adversaries, Kylie and Babs, are also on board! It seems that this is one holiday when Charlie and Jess can put aside their detective work and relax by playing deck quoits, eyeing up the crew or enjoying the ship's entertainment. Until, that is, Charlie's younger brother, Max, pals up with Peter Smith, who seems to be under surveillance from a number of different people. When Peter is kidnapped in St Petersburg, Charlie, Jess and Max start piecing together the clues and a story gradually emerges that could link Peter with Anastasia, the daughter of the last Russian Tsar. This is dangerous territory for the young detectives, involving not only powerful Russian groups intent on reviving the Russian monarchy, but also elements of the Russian mafia. They are able to pass their information to the St Petersburg police and leave them to deal with the mafia, but there is still one piece of evidence to be investigated on board the ship. Following her own instinct, as well as the leads they have uncovered, Charlie tracks down the instigator of the plot to kidnap Peter, only to put her own life at risk. And if that isn't bad enough, it's Kylia and Babs who come to her rescue!
