The photos do not involve any manipulation or posing of animals and represent the actual experiences of Kelly and her husband as told to Kathleen. The frog, Bogart, remains free to enter and leave the house at all times through a slightly open window.3. Though the story often suggests what certain animal behaviors seem to indicate about the animal's thinking, there is no attempt to assign totally human traits to the story's animal "characters" unlike those in picture books that employ cartoon illustrations.

Breakfast with Sammy is a large, beautifully illustrated children's book of 52 pages. It tells an engaging story of a little black kitten who is found by a young girl and her mother. The girl wants to adopt the kitten at first, then she realizes that her aunt and uncle would be a much better "parents" for the kitten. The story is a realistic look at how to take responsibility for a stray animal, who to contact, and how animals can really be fun friends. The book is also a early reader book, with a glossary of words which are highlighted in the story to help the young reader learn to read. The story is based on the experiences of a real family, with illustrations from both a professional illustrator and from the actual young girl who had the kitten Sammy adopted. This book is a captivating look at how animals can charm us all, child and adult alike.
