    Major General (Mrs) Anju Manchanda, VSM, spent over thirty-seven years in the Indian Army, holding various appointments in different terrains and extreme weather conditions. She treated and dealt with hundreds of patientsin both field conditions and multi-specialty research hospitals in New Delhi, Shimla, Rajouri (Jammu & Kashmir) and Kota.She was the first woman in the Indian Army to be appointed Deputy Director of Medical Services, Central Command. She was also the first woman to manage the Armed Forces Medical College and the post-graduation selection processes. A creed of patriotism underscored her life and for her exemplary service and courage, she was awarded a Vishisht Seva Medal in 1998.Major General Manchanda’s maiden writing and autobiographical effort was possibly the last feather in the cap of a bold journey through love, war and peace of a daughter, sister, soldier, doctor, wife and mother. Hers was a life of passion, patriotism and professionalism and an object lesson in self-confidence and the ability to handle any adversity.
