    Oliver Goldsmith, Randolph Caldecott

Paperback (Dodo Press, July 12, 2006)
One of a series of classic Victorian children's books by the British artist and author. Caldecott was the eponym of the Caldecott Medal and transformed the world of children's books in the Victorian era. He exercised his art chiefly in book illustrations, which were full of life, and instinct with a kindly, graceful humour. The stories and rhymes were all of his choosing and in some cases were written or added to by himself.

Paperback (Applewood Books, Jan. 1, 2012)
Author Dr. Oliver Goldsmith's ironic poem, with its moral comment on British society, was originally published in 1766. Goldsmith, best-known for his novel "The Vicar of Wakefield," tells of a man considered good and kind by his neighbors who, contrary to the townspeople's prediction, survives the bite of a mad dog. Sadly, it ends up the dog who dies of biting this upstanding and pious citizen. This edition, originally published circa 1882 by McLoughlin Brothers of New York, is illustrated, in color and black-and-white, by the legendary Randolph Caldecott.
