  • American War Library - The Vietnam War: A History of U.S. Involvement

    John M. Dunn

Hardcover (Lucent Books, Sept. 1, 2000)
The Vietnam War was the longest war in American history. It was also the most controversial and devisive since the American Civil War. And it was one the United States failed to win. Disturbing questions concerning the use of military force that emerged in the 1960s and early 1970s still haunt policy makers today. This book details the causes of the American involvement in Vietnam, the great events that shook both Vietnam and the United States during the long conflict, and the painful consequences of war.

This opened the floodgates, and by the mid-1960s ever-larger numbers of US troops poured into South Vietnam as US air power struck at North Vietnam.
