  • Family For A While

    R. C. Belle

    language (, Feb. 28, 2020)
Every family has a history. But what if your family history involved buried gold, a cryptic message from a dying relative, a money laundering cover-up, and even murder?Family For A While is a multi-generational family drama. It centers around two families, separated by decades, searching for something they didn't even know existed. Written in third-person past-tense, the reader is able to see how events unfolded across each generation and the thoughts and emotional reactions of the person. Each chapter is divided into two parts; the first being set in the early 1940's and the second in 2014. Shortly after America entered the war, we learned about a portion of the young marriage of Logan and Margaret and their pursuit to start a family. Although Margaret has recently been diagnosed as infertile, her persistence and eagerness for a child leads them to an orphanage within a week of the news. Thus, starting a spiral of strong-willed, yet perhaps, unfortunate decisions.Towards the end of his life, Logan develops dementia and has difficulty communicating. Carter, now married to Logan's granddaughter, Hannah, has a chance encounter with Logan on a lucid day. He tells Carter and Hannah of buried gold with other cryptic messages. Each chapter is then concluded with Hannah and Carter's quest to locate this treasure.Do Hannah and Carter find the buried gold? Do Logan and Margaret adopt a child? How do the decisions of one generation affect the next? How far is a young couple willing to go to have a child? To have a story is to have a family for a while.
