Archibald, a young man from earth’s surface, is mistakenly brought to a subterranean civilization, and is thrust into a class conflict where weapons built with a strange element threaten to destroy the entire population. Faced with the choice of helping the very civilization that robbed him of his life above, or dying with them, Archibald's world is turned upside down.Excerpt:"Arch gazed at the flower, captivated by its oddity and size. Just as he turned to go back through the tunnel, he noticed a dull light coming from inside the petals. It was so faint he thought it was just his eyes playing tricks, but as he stared, the glow became unmistakable. He slowly stepped closer to the light, which began to illuminate the petals as its glow grew. Light started to hit the stone in the enclosure, illuminating the walls to reveal engraved writing. But Arch only saw the flower. He looked inside the petals, at the peculiar, soft, captivating radiance. It rolled and flickered like a living flame across the golden petals. Arch didn’t sense the outer leaves of the plant, which he stood on, slowly rise, lifting him closer to the light. He vaguely sensed a smell, a smell that put his mind in a faraway place. And then darkness."

This is a children's story about a leaf, and is based on the life cycle of a tree, and some of the activity that happens to decompose leaf matter on the woodland floor. I hope that this is in part educational, partly fun and can be read either at school or at home.It is a short story, so can be read at any reading time during the day.

This is a short children's story based on nature. It relates to the story of a leaf and its life cycle. The leaf is the feature and main character. I have looked in books and googled what happens when leaves change colour in the autumn and what happens when they fall to the ground. I wanted to make this a fun story to hear, and this what I want to come across. The story is part of a book project working on, but have released the story for now. I hope that it can be read to children by teachers and adults, and by children themselves
