    Lisa McMann

Paperback (Simon Pulse, Nov. 10, 2015)
From the New York Times bestselling author of the Wake trilogy comes all three “dramatic, quick-paced,” (Kirkus Reviews) and gripping thrillers from the Visions trilogy collected in a single riveting volume.Jules lives with her family above their restaurant, which means she smells like pizza most of the time and drives their double meatball–shaped food truck to school. It’s not a recipe for popularity, but she can handle that. What she can’t handle is the recurring vision that haunts her. Over and over, Jules sees a careening truck hit a building and explode...and nine body bags in the snow. The vision is everywhere—on billboards, television screens, windows—and she’s the only one who sees it. And the more she sees it, the more she sees. The vision is giving her clues, and soon Jules knows what she has to do. Because now she can see the face in one of the body bags, and it’s someone she knows. Someone she has been in love with for as long as she can remember. But the horror doesn’t end there. In fact, this was just the beginning. And when Jules passes her visions on to someone she loves, will they be able to work together to prevent their visions from becoming realities?

  • SuperVisions: Ambiguous Optical Illusions

    Al Seckel

    Paperback (Sterling, April 1, 2005)
First you see one thing, then another. The picture changes from one moment to the next, flip-flopping back and forth. That's an ambiguous illusion, and the ones in this largest-ever collection offer constant, pleasurable surprises. Sometimes, the perceptual shift occurs if you just stare at the visual puzzle long enough; in other cases, it's necessary to invert or rotate the image first. In one picture, it's a cat-and-mouse game as you try to discover where the mouse is hiding from the cat. Another image features two minstrels playing homage to William Shakespeare--but at first, only the familiar portrait of the bard may be apparent. Once the dual nature of the illusion reveals itself, you'll never see just one object again.

  • SuperVisions: Action Optical Illusions

    Al Seckel

    Paperback (Sterling, April 1, 2005)
How can a flat page have pictures that actually seem to move? That's what these 90 action illusions--the largest such compilation ever assembled--succeed in doing. Through the magic of visual effects, including the careful use of color and brightness, static images become animated and solid shapes deform right before your eyes. Some of the illusions appear to hover in the air; others produce afterimages of bright color or produce a sensation of swirling. In a number of cases, it's necessary to shift the entire page to get the trick, or to use peripheral vision for the full effect. You'll be stunned as perfect squares appear out of nowhere, patterns pulse, and yellow dots flash.
