A strange ghost-like figure appears out of the shadows of the dying campfire as the Foster twins and their cousin are camping in the Ozark Mountains above Moore's Lake near Heber Springs, Arkansas. Akiela, the mysterious man of the mountains has come to warn them about evil men in the area of the lake. The mysterious stranger seems to be able to disappear and re-appear at will. He is very tall, and pale, his long white hair flows to his narrow shoulders. His eyes burn like coals of fire with agitation and displeasure at what is happening to his beloved mountains and to beautiful Lake Moore.

When counterfeiters pass a twenty-dollar bill to Sydney Foster at Rose Bud Cove, the Foster twins begin another one of their exciting adventures. They are determined to catch the crooks and see that they are punished for breaking federeal law and, in this case leaving Sydney short of money to pay for her new metal detector and microscope. Before the Foster twins are able to do what they set out to do they are captured and left on a snake and alligator infested island and set adrift in their own boat to go aver a giant waterfall to the rocks below. They know that even if they survive this challenge they will eventually have a life or death battle with two unbalanced killers if Chief Cupp doesn't arrive at the old country house in time! This adventure takes place in the majestic Rocky Mountains of Colorado not far from Boulder, and just down the interstate and off into the foothills of the Rockies from Denver.
