Books in Katy Did series

this novel reintroduces the Carr family and the widow Mrs. Ashe. Mrs. Ashe has her nephew, Walter, over for a visit and it is discovered that he has scarlet fever. Anxious that her only daughter Amy should not contract the disease, Amy is sent to live with the Carrs where she builds up a particular rapport with the eldest daughter Katy. Following Walter's recovery, Mrs. Ashe decides that she should have a vacation to Europe and asks that Katy be her travel companion. Initially reluctant due to familial obligations, Katy is persuaded by her father to go and is given $300 for the trip.

Following her recovery Katy and her sister Clover are sent to boarding school for a year with their cousin Lilly Page. In their year the girls make friends with fellow boarders. Despite getting into scrapes, Katy is a positive influence on the younger girls and they in turn help Katy reclaim some of her lost youthfulness that her long illness robbed her of.

The First book in the “Katy Did Series” A children's book about the adventures of a twelve-year-old American girl, Katy Carr, and her family who live in the 1860s. Katy is a tall untidy tomboy, forever getting into scrapes but wishing to be beautiful and beloved. When a terrible accident makes her an invalid, her illness and recovery gradually teach her to be as good and kind as she has always wanted. The Author modeled Katy on her own childhood self, and the other 'Little Carrs' on her brothers and sisters.

The 2nd book in the “Katy Did Series” This book is about Katy and her sister Clover and their adventures together at boarding school. A mature Katie handles her circumstances well including misunderstanding teachers and mischievous classmates. She forms a good friendship with a bright impish girl Rosamund Redding, "Rose Red." A great picture of boarding school life for 18 century American girls. Illustrated.

Clover is the 4th book in the “Katy Did Series” In it, we read of Katy's marriage and Clover's experiences in Colorado. In this fourth book of the series the focus shifts to Clover and "little" Phil her brother now twelve. After Phil's serious illness during the winter, Dr. Carr sends him, with Clover to watch over him, to the mountains of Colorado to help him recover his health. Clarence Page (A character from the second book who was a friend of Clover), now a rancher with an English partner, turns out to live nearby.

The 5th and final book in the “Katy Did Series” In this book, two British siblings, Imogen and Lionel Young, come to live near Clover and Elsie and their husbands and children. Imogen has many misconceptions and prejudices about Americans in general and Clover in particular, and the story concerns her coming to terms with these feelings. Illustrated.

“What Katy Did Next” is the 3rd book in the “ Katy Did Series” Katy is invited to go to Europe for a year with her friends Mrs. Ashe a widow and her little girl Amy. Katy decides to go, packs her bags, and departs on a vessel bound for England. She stays in Europe for six months. She has adventures and makes new friends as she travels enjoying experiencing new places. A sweet ending.
