    Tanya Turner

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, May 10, 2017)

They live in the water and they are frequently found in the moss (which is also their food). They somewhat look like a pig, too – but since they’re small (very, VERY small) they are called piglets instead of pigs. Looking at it, you might also associate it with bears. It somewhat looks like a teddy bear. It even looks like a stuffed toy. Tardigrades are very small creatures – in fact, they’re microscopic (which means that you need a microscope to see them clearly). Despite being that small, do you know that you can keep the Tardigrades as pets? How would that be possible? Have a copy of this book and you will know how to find Tardigrades, how to catch them, and even how to take care of them!

  • THE PEACOCK MANTIS SHRIMP Do Your Kids Know This?: A Children's Picture Book

    Tanya Turner

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, May 3, 2017)
Meet the Peacock Mantis Shrimp – it’s also known as the Harlequin Mantis Shrimp, Painted Mantis Shrimp, and Clown Mantis Shrimp. While it goes by a lot of names, the Peacock Mantis Shrimp is its most popular name because it can be likened to a colorful peacock (have you seen one of those?). Of course, “harlequin,” “painted,” and “clown” also gives you an idea as to how colorful this type of shrimp is. It is more colorful than the regular shrimps that can be eaten. While they do look somewhat like the shrimps that are served in restaurants, they also look like lobsters. They don’t have claws like lobsters – but they have a pair of clubs called smashers, and their smashers make them the boxers of the sea. While the Peacock Mantis Shrimp’s “smasher” can be compared to a boxing glove, it’s much tougher than that. In fact, not only can it hit objects in a very powerful way, it is also resistant to breakage. Even when the shrimp’s smashers get cracked, they still won’t break easily. Having a really strong smasher is like having a really large hammer for breaking things. This is also one of the reasons why this type of shrimp is known to be capable of breaking glass tanks when kept as pets. Another interesting part of the Peacock Mantis Shrimp is its eyes. Their eyes look like two separate attachments on their heads – and they can move (and look) in different directions as well. Excited to learn more about the Peacock Mantis Shrimp? Tanya Turner

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, May 10, 2017)
What is an anglerfish? What characteristics are common for this species of fish? The Anglerfish is a species of fish that uses an angler or a lure that works like a fishing rod. Equipped with really big heads, Anglerfishes sometimes seem that they’re all head. Their bodies are flat – that’s why they can easily bury themselves in the sand and go unnoticed. The Anglerfish has a very big mouth – and it can open really wide, too. So wide, in fact, that the fish can easily swallow its prey (its food) in one gulp. Don’t underestimate its mouth because it can open way beyond what you would expect. As for its most important characteristic (its angler or lure), this is actually a spine that’s located at the top of its head (just above its eyes). Excited to learn more about the Anglerfish? • THE FLAPJACK OCTOPUS Do Your Kids Know This?: A Children's Picture Book

    Tanya Turner

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, May 3, 2017)
If most species of octopus are quite scary, consider this one an exception. The Flapjack Octopus is far from being scary – it’s harmless and it’s cute. The Flapjack Octopus is a species of octopus that’s also called Flapjack Devilfish. However, it only looks similar to a devilfish, but it is not related to it. Because of its flat appearance, it’s referred to as Flapjack or Pancake Devilfish. Being flat also makes it the most compressed (or flat) species of cephalopod (octopuses and squids are members of this group or class). The body of a Flapjack Octopus is gelatin-like, so it’s soft and gooey. The shades of their body can be anywhere from transparent to dark red – so there’s a pinkish shade there somewhere, too. As with all octopuses, the Flapjack Octopus also has eight legs (octo actually means eight). Their legs are joined together by a thin flesh, so their legs are webbed. Having webbed legs also makes the octopus seem like an open umbrella when it’s moving. Excited to learn more about the Flapjack Octopus?
