A fable about free, dancing daffodils and how they came to be flowers which return each Spring. The daffodils in this story are free; they are not plants with stems, leaves and roots in the ground. When the daffodils fall down, they cannot get up because they have no arms, hence they just lie about and die. In order to be able to live, they elect a King and he decides that they should become planted as bulbs in the ground. Then the daffodils return each Spring and, in a way, when the breeze blows on the fields of daffodils, they still bob up and down freely.
