A Newbery Honor Book in 1947; the tale of Johnny Littlehorn, an American boy who is sent to France immediately after World War II to stay with his eccentric, aviation-minded uncle and recuperate from an injury. He eludes Nazi spies, learns to communicate with the locals, and conqers homesickness. The book increasingly incorporates French vocabulary words throughout, with the last four pages written entirely in French. A classic of juvenile fiction. L-34n
