A scarce unclipped jacket, still showing "8s 6d net" has small nicks and some soiling; book shows spotting to cloth spine, light offsetting to endpapers, light splay typical of the thin boards. Better than VG book in better than VG unclipped jacket. A Newbery Honor Book in 1947; the tale of Johnny Littlehorn, an American boy who is sent to France immediately after World War II to stay with his eccentric, aviation-minded uncle and recuperate from an injury. He eludes Nazi spies, learns to communicate with the locals, and conqers homesickness. The book increasingly incorporates French vocabulary words throughout, with the last four pages written entirely in French. A classic of juvenile fiction. L-34n
