  • Flower Fables

Louisa May Alcott, Frances Bassett Comstock

Hardcover (McLoughlin Bros., Jan. 1, 1900)
Louisa May Alcott’s first book, Flower Fables has been a classic since its first edition. There is no publication date; the author’s lovely inscription is as follows: “To Ellen Emerson for whom they were fancied, these Flower Fables are inscribed by her friend, The Author. Boston, Dec. 9, 1854.” There is a clear lithograph in semi-profile with her lithographed signature. The cloth cover is both colored and embossed, showing a young girl sitting on a loveseat, reading. The cover colors are magnificent for a book of this age. Typical for a book of its age there is fading throughout and the last page has separated, otherwise, the pages are securely in the book. This book would be a great inclusion for any Alcott collector.
