  • A Sea Change

    Flora L. Shaw

    Hardcover (Roberts, March 15, 1884)
Between 1878-86 Shaw (Lady Lugard), according to Wikipedia, wrote five novels, four for children and one for young adults. In her books, young girls are encouraged to be resourceful and brave, but in a traditional framework, acting in support of "gentlemanly" fathers and prospective husbands rather than on their own behalf. Shaw's ideology is both sexually conservative and Imperialist. This book was published first in Boston, the next year in London, green decorative covers with bumped end, paper label on spine, green circle with D on fep, Good copy showing some wear. Rare.
