  • Men and Angels: The Art of James C. Christensen

    James C. Christensen, Kate Horowitz

Hardcover (The Greenwich Workshop Press, Nov. 17, 2008)
A major retrospective from the master of fantasy fine art Artist James C. Christensen's keen observation of humanity and endless supply of imagination have made him one of the world's most beloved artists. From his childhood in Culver City, California, to his professional career at Brigham Young University, Christensen has cast his perceptive eye on the world, translating it into engaging and inventive art. Men and Angels is the definitive retrospective on Christensen, who was at the forefront of the resurgence of fantasy-as-fine-art just as Tolkien merged literature and fantasy. At the height of reactionary pop art, in the 1960s Christensen's classically inspired art was considered a throwback, influenced as it was by such masters as Albrecht DĂĽrer, John William Waterhouse, and Jan van Eyck. Although labeled a fantasy painter early in his career, Christensen grew to defy categorization with his astonishing range of subject matter and style. The lively text conveys his contagious enthusiasm for art history and his understanding of the evolution of the human spirit through art. This masterly body of work, represented in more than 300 paintings, will be cherished by collectors, educators, and art lovers.
  • Jesus Christ, Son of Man: The Early Years

Susan Easton Black, Liz Lemon Swindle

Hardcover (The Greenwich Workshop Press, Jan. 9, 2001)
The third volume in this popular series chronicles the final week of the life of Jesus Christ in magnificent paintings and inspiring text. With pen and brush, author and artist combine talents to portray the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, his sufferings for the sins of mankind, and his glorious resurrection. In so doing, they share a significant and marvelous account of the ministry of the Son of God. Author Susan Easton Black and artist Liz Lemon Swindle once again share an artistic narrative glimpse of the mortal ministry of Jesus Christ. They chronicle how he took upon himself the sorrows of humankind and overcame death. They depict familiar Bible scenes but also share a vision of Christ as a legend, a revolutionary, and a man who walked the earth and lived as part of his native community. King of Kings is ultimately a story of love, forgiveness, and redemption.

  • Horse Indian Wolf: The Hidden Pictures of Judy Larson

    Kathleen Kudlinski V., Judy Larson

Hardcover (The Greenwich Workshop Press, Sept. 15, 2010)
Can you find the camouflaged images in artist Judy Larson’s paintings? Each painting has a hidden image, and the accompanying text will give you clues. Often the concealed image is of a companion―animal or Indian―and sometimes it is the spirit of someone or something that shares the same fate; for example, an Alaskan wolf might be hidden inside the painting of a wild horse, and both have been hunted to near extinction. A great bald eagle―the spirit of freedom―is hidden within a wild horse. Other paintings tell Native American legends with their hidden picture-within-a-picture. Two themes converge in these pictures and stories: the precarious plight of endangered wildlife, and the fate of Native Americans whose harmony with the natural world children continue to study and honor. The artist’s spectacular scratchboard painting technique is perfect for telling stories within stories and portraying the beauty of the wilderness and the wild animals who call it home.
