  • Penny and the Magic Puffballs: Roxie's First Day

    Alonda Williams, Tyrus Goshay

language (Glori Publishing, May 5, 2016)
The Penny and the Magic Puffball series started as bedtime stories designed to encourage my daughter to love her natural puffy hair. In this second installment of the Penny and Magic Puffballs book series, Penny witnesses bullying and learns the valuable lesson of being a friend in a time of need. Girls can be mean sometimes and this story is meant to encourage kindness, especially to those who may need a friend. In this book, Penny models compassion and courage by befriending Roxie and trying to stop Bianca’s bullying behavior. Her puffballs help her come up with a great idea and create magic in someone else's day. Penny also shares the enduring message that “It’s ok to be different” with her new friend Roxie. Penny and the magic puffballs was born out of my love for my daughter Paris, and my desire for her to feel comfortable, confident and secure in her skin. She questioned why her hair was different from all of the other girls and wondered why she couldn’t wear her hair like theirs. I wanted her to know that different didn’t mean bad, different was special. I also wanted to make sure that she saw main characters of color in books. So I created Penny and the magic puffballs originally as a bedtime story and decided to turn the stories into a series of books. In these books, Penny's fun adventures reinforce self-acceptance, empowerment , kindness and friendship. Praise for Penny and the magic puffballs – Volume 1 Amazon Bestseller and 5 Star Review“Great uplifting story and good for anyone to learn lessons on accepting yourself as is” “Empowering story and a confidence builder” Selected by Essence Magazine as one of “Books all black children should read” Chosen by MSNBC/The Grio as one of the” Most Inspiring children’s books” www.pennyandthemagicpuffballs.com www.facebook.com/pennyspuffs Instagram: @magicpuffballs Twitter:@magicpuffballs Periscope: @magicpuffballs

Perfect for readers who enjoy a story with more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. What Readers Say About Mr Lucky--"An imaginative scenario composed of one man's choice to do good with an unexpected windfall. Vindictive jealousy and unmerited retribution."--"Reminded me of both Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy's Trading Places and the Nicholas Cage film, Leaving Las Vegas in places, with a soupcon of The Sopranos in the mix."--“This is a fantastic read. It really moved me from the start with the scene about the homeless man. I would highly recommend it.”--“Once you start reading, you won’t want to stop until you finish. It’s got a strong narrative drive as we learn how the paths of homeless man and a major drug dealer cross thanks to $100M lottery win. The characters are well-drawn and believable.”--“Most of us have fantasised at some point in our life about what we would do if we won a lottery. Lee Wood provides us with a surprising yet believable scenario set in suburban UK and featuring contemporary social issues including drugs, prostitution, corruption, homelessness and the plight of the working class.”If you enjoy beautifully crafted British Crime by authors such as Adam Croft, Tony Parsons and Helen H Durrant, then you'll love this series set in the fictional town of Trentbridge, a cross between Cambridge and Stoke-On-Trent.
