  • Licorice Lane: Tales from Harley

    Lindsey Dempsey

Paperback (Lindsey Dempsey, Oct. 3, 2017)
Let your imagination take over while you read this children's tale about a dog name, his friend and their game of pretend. If you like the game of Candy Lane, you will love Licorice Lane, watching the two explore a world of sweet treats while they meet a Jelly Bean Queen and his Lollipop Queen. A perfect read for ages 0-8, this heartwarming story is part of a new series that encourages children to turn off the TV and explore the world by using their imaginations. It's a book that shows children they can be anything if they put their creativity to use! At the end of the book, children are invited to color the four coloring pages from the story! “The goal of my book is to instill imaginations back into young readers by motivating them to use their own imaginations through the storyline and partake in the story itself by using their own imaginations to fill in the coloring pages,” Lindsey says. As a Mom, Lindsey sees how technology can play a role in creating a roadblock in the development of children’s imaginations. “As a child, I had very limited TV time which allowed me to become an avid book reader.” – Lindsey says Limiting TV time allowed Lindsey to let her creativity take over and she spent her days playing the game of pretend using characters from her favorite books and making up her own stories along the way. This mindset traveled with her into adulthood, allowing her to have a successful career in Marketing. Lindsey wants this book to help readers explore their own imaginations without the distraction of technology getting in the way. For more information, visit www.lindseydempseyauthor.wordpress.com. The Furry Inspiration Behind The Character! The main character of the book is inspired by a rescue dog named Harley. Harley is a Cockapoo who was rescued from the Arizona Humane Society at 11 months old. While visiting the property, Lindsey stopped at Harley’s cage to be greeted by a ragged curly haired puppy with tangled hair blocking his big brown eyes. As she stood there, he gently placed his paw up to her hand to say hi. Lindsey’s heart immediately melted for the moppy-haired dog. A few days later, Lindsey adopted Harley and took him home. The two immediately became best pals. Since that day, Harley’s family has expanded and he now spends his days with Lindsey, her husband Scott and their daughter. Lindsey’s daughter and Harley are the best of friends and the two are always being silly together. Harley brings so much joy into the family’s day and it’s all thanks to the wonderful Arizona Humane Society organization. The book invites your child on an adventure that stems from the game of pretend. It's a tale imagined by Harley and his friend. The two take your child on a journey through a colorful world that only our imaginations can see. It’s a tale that shows children the fun they can have with their imagination and encourages them to dream up a story of their own at the end of the book by coloring the illustrations!
