    eBook (1920sEra.com, Feb. 16, 2011)
“A Wonder Book for Girls and Boys” is an enthralling children's book written by American author Nathaniel Hawthorne in which he rewrites myths from Greek mythology to appeal to children. He later followed it up with a sequel, Tanglewood Tales for Boys and Girls. The stories were originally stories within a story, but we have edited most of the unnecessary framework out and just focused on the myths in order to create a book size suitable for Kindle readers. It remains a long book equivalent to about 105 regular book pages, which of course appears much longer on most Kindle readers.A Wonder-Book for Girls and Boys covers the myths of * The Gorgon's Head * The Golden Touch * The Paradise of Children * The Three Golden Apples * The Miraculous Pitcher * The ChimæraEach story is accompanied by 3 or 4 colored illustrations that bring the story and characters to life. The 20 beautiful colored illustrations are by Walter Crane, a British illustrator who is considered to be the most influential children’s book creator of his generation. His colorful and detailed illustrations set the benchmark for late nineteenth and early twentieth century illustrators. With the storytelling talent of Nathaniel Hawthorne and the illustration talent of Walter Crane all in one book, this is a must have for your children’s library.

  • The Bee Who Would Not Work

    Charlotte Herr, Frances Beem

    language (1920sEra.com, Jan. 21, 2011)
The Bee Who Would Not Work: A Children's Picture Book and StoryThis very popular children’s story with a timeless moral is based on the adventures of a lazy bee called Fumble Bee and the eventual consequences of his actions. While out collecting honey one day he is captivated by a beautiful little butterfly he bumps in to, and together they party all summer long, resulting in him getting banned from the bee-hive. Eventually the weather changes to winter, and all of a sudden Fumble Bee can no longer find flowers to feed from, and his new friends have disappeared. Finally, he realizes the error of his ways and works to redeem himself.Like the original book this digital version has lots of beautiful color illustrations (for devices that display color). If you are looking for a bedtime story for young children, this tale of a fun loving bee holds a timeless appeal for young children.Willie Mouse was written by Charlotte Bronte Herr and the beautiful color illustrations are by Frances Beem, a leading artist of children’s books.“The Bee Who Would Not Work” was originally published as a tiny 4 ¾” x 6 ¼” book of relatively low quality. Printing standards in the early 1900’s were not as high as they are today and the original book was printed as cheaply as possible. By keeping the size of the book down it was possible to print in color and still make it affordable. This version is an enhanced version where the text and images have had changes made to them in order to create an improved experience for modern readers. For example the pictures have been enlarged and modified to present a higher image quality at an increased size. All the pictures have been modified while still preserving the basic style of the original artist. The text has also been modified to reflect modern English usage. Most other digital versions of this book that you encounter online are of a much lower quality. The text and images are blurry making them very hard to read and causing eye strain for readers. We hope you appreciate the higher quality of our production, and that you enjoy this wonderful tale as much as we do.
