Montgomery, was a Canadian author, best known for a series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables. In 1908, Montgomery published her first book, Anne of Green Gables upon which it became an immediate success. She then followed this with a series of sequels with Anne as the central character. In the last year of her life, Montgomery completed what she intended to be a ninth novel featuring Anne, titled The Blythes Are Quoted. It included fifteen short stories (most of which were previously published) that she revised to include Anne and her family as mainly peripheral characters; forty-one poems (most of which were previously published) that she attributed to Anne and to her son Walter, who died as a soldier in the Great War; and vignettes featuring the Blythe family members discussing the poems.

    (Independently published, April 5, 2020)
If it had not rained on a certain May morning Valancy Stirling’s whole life would have been entirely different. She would have gone, with the rest of her clan, to Aunt Wellington’s engagement picnic and Dr. Trent would have gone to Montreal. But it did rain and you shall hear what happened to her because of it.Valancy wakened early, in the lifeless, hopeless hour just preceding dawn. She had not slept very well. One does not sleep well, sometimes, when one is twenty-nine on the morrow, and unmarried, in a community and connection where the unmarried are simply those who have failed to get a man.
