  • What Happened That Day?

    C.J. Pickle

Paperback (Friends of Faith, March 1, 2010)
What do a King, a Queen, a Magician, and a Compass have in common? Open the pages of What Happened That Day? to find out! This whimsical story tells how the start of an ordinary day can lead to extraordinary adventures in a magical kingdom. Young readers also learn how one kingdom can be turned upside down by a hop, a skip, and a PLOP. With every turn of the page, children will search for letters to reinforce letter recognition. However, What Happened That Day? is not your typical "ABC" book. (Famous song lyrics say "ABC is as easy as 123" but, what if ABC is not as easy as 123?) This adventure book is designed with detailed illustrations that incorporate letters featured on each page. The book encourages children to identify stylized letters as well as standard fonts. Teaching and creativity combine to make this book an enjoyable learning experience for both parent and child.

  • What Happened to Me

    Lasalle Corbell Pickett

    eBook
โ€œOn the train from Albany my attention was attracted by a man in close conversation with the conductor. I was evidently the subject of discussion, for they would look carefully over the paper they held and then at me as if comparing me with something therein described. Had I been a hardened criminal they would probably not have taken the risk of thus warning me of the fact that I was under suspicion. As my appearance would seem to indicate that, if a law-breaker, I was a mere tyro in crime, they supposed they could safely take notes of me. I was absolutely sure that they were talking of me and trembled with a presentiment of coming evil. I tried to turn my face to the window but my eyes were fascinated. A thousand preposterous fears passed in review before my mind, though the real one never suggested itself. I endeavored to dispel them each in turn, arguing that the scrutiny of the men foreboded nothing, because I seemed an object of curiosity to everybody and, recalling my appearance, I do not wonder. My dress was different from that of those around me, though I was unconscious of any defect in my apparel, being garmented in my very best, the traveling gown in which I had been married, and which had been bought and made under great difficulties and kept afterward with scrupulous care. So I was perfectly well satisfied with myself.โ€

  • What Happened to Me

    Lasalle Corbell Pickett

Hardcover (Forgotten Books, Jan. 21, 2018)
Excerpt from What Happened to MeRunning his hand down into his breeches pocket he pulled out his rattlesnake-skin bag, filled with charms against hoodoos en cun jers, and selected from the gruesomeness a blood-stained rabbit's foot and, lifting my little clenched fingers one by one, he closed them around it. Thus, perhaps, he saved me from that most loathsome fault, stinginess, and insured for me, even though the talisman was of a Chuesday's killing, sprinting over a woman's instead of a man's briar - grown home, at least a minimum amount of good luck.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
