Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, April 7, 2014)
Johann David Wyss (March 4, 1743 - January 11, 1818) was a Swiss pastor who earned lasting fame for writing The Swiss Family Robinson, a novel inspired by Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe. While Crusoe was a lone castaway, The Swiss Family Robinson was written to have a father figure impart wisdom to his children, teaching them important lessons. The Swiss Family Robinson involves a family being shipwrecked, allowing the father to teach his four sons about Christian values and morality, including naturalism and self-reliance. The influence of Enlightenment thinkers like Rousseau is evident in the writings of the Swiss pastor. The family encounters several adventures, with each one teaching the children certain lessons. Today the novel is considered a classic of Western literature.

    Hardcover (Generations, Jan. 1, 2018)
Following a raging storm in the Pacific, a Swiss family is shipwrecked on a deserted island. Together, they labor to build a new Switzerland in a faraway place. As this Christian family builds a new home away from home, they learn that God is the all-merciful Provider of everything that mankind enjoys. God is the bountiful Creator who has made the things of this earth for the benefit of His creatures. This new edition of The Swiss Family Robinson is revised from the popular W.H. Kingston translation. It includes additions from the original English translation of William Godwin. This new edition includes parts of Wyss’ original narrative that have often been removed from other editions. Wyss, as a pastor and a father, originally wrote this story to teach his boys the truths of the Christian faith. Many of these parts of the narrative have been restored in this edition.

The Swiss Family Robinson has delighted generations of readers with its exciting tale of a family which, though shipwrecked, displays the right stuff and builds a charming colony that later, they do not want to leave. Cut off from the comforts and companionship of other humans, they use a familiarity with natural history and biology to find the resources and build the tools to construct a canoe, weave cloth, irrigate a garden, and turn an immense hollow tree into a lofty house with a spiral staircase. They domesticate buffaloes, wild asses, and monkeys, establish farms and plantations, and finally, have a terrifying encounter with natives from a nearby island.
