  • The Rose Master

    Valentina Cano

    (REUTS Publications, July 8, 2014)
"Cano does a fine job of setting mood and atmosphere, and her characters dance around one another with relentless industry and brooding allure, fighting their inevitable attraction." ― Publishers Weekly --- The day Anne Tinning turns seventeen, birds fall from the sky. But that's hardly the most upsetting news. She's being dismissed from the home she's served at since she was a child, and shipped off to become the newly hired parlor maid for a place she's never heard of. And when she sees the run-down, isolated house, she instantly knows why: There's something wrong with Rosewood Manor. Staffed with only three other servants, all gripped by icy silence and inexplicable bruises, and inhabited by a young master who is as cold as the place itself, the house is shrouded in neglect and thick with fear. Her questions are met with hushed whispers, and she soon finds herself alone in the empty halls, left to tidy and clean rooms no one visits. As the feeling of being watched grows, she begins to realize there is something else in the house with them--some creature that stalks the frozen halls and claws at her door. A creature that seems intent on harming her. When a fire leaves Anne trapped in the manor with its Master, she finally demands to know why. But as she forces the truth about what haunts the grounds from Lord Grey, she learns secrets she isn't prepared for. The creature is very real, and she's the only one who can help him stop it. Now, Anne must either risk her life for the young man she's grown to admire, or abandon her post while she still can.
  • Golden

    Melinda Michaels

Paperback (REUTS Publications, April 7, 2015)
High school senior Hanna Loch just suffered a blackout in front of her entire homeroom class. She hasn't had one in over ten years, and she's terrified-the last time she blacked out, she woke up with no memory of her life before. To make matters worse, no one can explain why it happens. For Hanna, bad things tend to come in threes. And that doesn't even begin to cover it . . . When she learns she could be a descendant of someone who lived /once upon a time/, Hanna must put her trust in William Vann, a descendant of one of the most hated villains ever known. Their histories are intertwined in more ways than she expected, and he has answers about her past, answers even her family won't share. But is it safe to put her trust in someone who appears to be danger reincarnate, while trying to escape the darkness that tried to kill her ten years ago? A loose fairytale retelling, GOLDEN is a story that's /just right/, weaving together lost secrets, vengeful enemies, and what happens when fiction becomes reality.
  • Sierra Cloud: A True Story About a Horse with Courage

Susan Byrne, Susan Byrne M.A. with Joan Stockbridge

    Paperback (R&R Publications, March 15, 2003)
The tale of Sierra Cloud: A True Story about a Horse with Courage is about a one-year old filly (a young female horse) who is sexually assaulted by a stallion that gets loose one night. When Sierra Cloud returns home, she experiences many of the feelings that human child victims of sexual abuse experience. Told from Sierra Cloud's point of view, the story allows children to identify with the horse and project their feelings onto the animal. When Sierra Cloud is finally able to tell someone she trusts about the assault, her healing and recovery begin. Children learn that speaking out is a way to stop the abuse, and the story emphasizes the courage it takes for any victim to tell about abuse. This book has been read and edited by Master's and Ph.D. level mental health clinicians as well as by lay persons who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse. While designed for children ages 5-12 for use in therapeutic settings, Sierra Cloud may provide insight and healing to all ages. A writing and drawing journal to accompany the book is available through the store at www.eagala.org.

  • Quotes on Children and Childhood

    Patty Crowe, Laura Wertz

Hardcover (Richer Resources Publications, Jan. 15, 2010)
Zeus, Father of the Olympian Immortals, said, "How simple the child." 3000 years later, B.C. Forbes of Forbes magazine fame made the statement, "Upon our children - how they are taught - rests the fate - or fortune - of tomorrow's world." Both true, yet spans apart, it is perhaps the very width of this span which best defines the child. Small yet wide-eyed, innocent yet persistent, the source of both our greatest worries and our most passionate joys, "They are who they are," could well be the best description yet. Compiled from the wisdom of 3000 years of recorded history, the one thing which seems certain is that childhood is a special time for the child as well as for the adult.

She's now linked by starlight to the world inside the darkness. And her star is dying. If she doesn't return home before the star's light disappears and her link breaks, she'll be trapped forever.
