Very nice decorated binding in scarce dust jacket. Clean unfaded red cloth boards with cream decorative title box and some blind-stamped design elements, clean unrubbed oval woman's portrait paste-on on cover; cream lettering and decoration on spine. No bumping or wear. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound - no cracking. Pages and edges are clean, previous owner name and date (Jan. 1910) neatly penned on front free endpaper. Illustrated by C. D. Williams, including black and white frontispiece. 453 pages + publisher's advertising at rear of book. Dust jacket has small edge chips, particularly at spine ends, is clean. Enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover. A novel of early Virginia in the 1850's leading up to the American Civil War.
