  • Eve's Diary

    Mark Twain

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Dec. 4, 2015)
Eve's Diary is a comic short story by Mark Twain. It was first published in the 1905 Christmas issue of the magazine Harper's Bazaar, and in book format in June 1906 by Harper and Brothers publishing house. It is written in the style of a diary kept by the first woman in the Judeao-Christian creation story, Eve, and is claimed to be "translated from the original MS." The "plot" of this novel is the first-person account of Eve from her creation up to her burial by, her mate, Adam, including meeting and getting to know Adam, and exploring the world around her, Eden. The story then jumps 40 years into the future after the Fall and expulsion from Eden. It is one of a series of books Twain wrote concerning the story of Adam and Eve, including 'Extracts from Adam's Diary,' 'That Day In Eden,' 'Eve Speaks,' 'Adam's Soliloquy,' and the 'Autobiography of Eve.' Eve's Diary has a lighter tone than the others in the series, as Eve has a strong appreciation for beauty and love. The book may have been written as a posthumous love-letter to Mark Twain's wife Olivia Langdon Clemens, or Livy, who died in June 1904, just before the story was written. Mark Twain is quoted as saying, "Eve's Diary is finished โ€” I've been waiting for her to speak, but she doesn't say anything more." The story ends with Adam's speaking at Eve's grave, "Wherever she was, there was Eden." The book version of the story was published with 55 illustrations by Lester Ralph, on each left hand page. The illustrations depicted Eve and Adam in their natural settings. The depiction of an unclothed woman was considered pornographic when the book was first released in the United States, and created a controversy around the book. Include illustrations!

  • Eve's Diary

    Mark Twain

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Dec. 27, 2013)
"Eve's Diary" is one of the most famous and notable entries in Mark Twain's series purporting to be the diaries of Adam and Eve. Like the others, it is a different take on the classic story; both humorous and thought-provoking, it recreates the famous scene with surprising plausibility and is very enjoyable. This begins somewhat more light-heartedly than the related stories, and is indeed quite funny, but ends with one of the most powerfully affecting love meditations ever. It is hard to read without a tear, and anyone who has ever loved will be profoundly touched. Often seen as a tribute to Twain's recently deceased wife, this is a small masterpiece. Anyone interested in Twain should read it, especially those who enjoyed related pieces, and it is highly recommended for anyone interested in Genesis - and indeed for everyone, as its core element is the most universal of human feelings. Though well worth reading in itself, it is available in collections - The Bible According to Mark Twain, etc. - alongside related pieces and many other works, making a standalone hard to justify.

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Nov. 25, 2017)
Edition perfect as a gift. "It is up there yet. Resting, apparently. But that is a subterfuge: Sunday isn't the day of rest; Saturday is appointed for that. It looks to me like a creature that is more interested in resting than it anything else. It would tire me to rest so much. It tires me just to sit around and watch the tree. I do wonder what it is for; I never see it do anything."

  • Eveโ€™s Diary

    Mark TWAIN (1835 - 1910)

    MP3 CD (IDB Productions, Jan. 1, 2017)
In Eveโ€™s Diary, it is written that on a Saturday, Eve contemplated on being created as an experiment or invention and she is already one-day old on Earth. She told herself to be always keen and observant of the surroundings around her. She reminded herself to make proper actions so that the historians will not be bewildered of the events during her time. She was at first curious of what it is like living in this planet, accompanied by a man named Adam, who looks so similar with her. Except for her long hair and feminine features. Samuel Langhorne Clemens best known by his pseudonym Mark Twain, was a United States novelist, satirist, tradesman, publisher, and professor. A few of his popular stories are The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in 1876 and its series, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in 1885, the second ofttimes known as โ€œThe Great American Novel". Mark grew up in Hannibal, Missouri, which afterwards gave the context for Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. He became an assistant with a publisher and later employed as a typesetter, writing columns to the periodical of his elder brother Orion Clemens. He then became a riverboat navigator on the Mississippi River prior to going west to enlist at Orion in Nevada. He ascribed comically to his shortfall of popularity at mining, switching careers to newspaper writing for the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise. His funny tale, The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, was issued in 1865, founded on a fiction that he perceived at Angels Hotel in Angels Camp, California where he had expended certain years as a mine worker. The short tale got worldwide interest and was even interpreted into French. His intellect and humor, in literature and in communication, acquired commendation from reviewers and contemporaries, and he was a comrade to leaders, crafts persons, entrepreneurs and European crowned heads.
