His name was strange to the scientific and learned societies, and he never was known to take part in the sage deliberations of the Royal Institution or the London Institution, the Artisan's Association, or the Institution of Arts and Sciences. He belonged, in fact, to none of the numerous societies which swarm in the English capital, from the Harmonic to that of the Entomologists, founded mainly for the purpose of abolishing pernicious insects.

Verne wrote about spacecraft, aircraft and submarines before they existed.Verne was born into the family of Pierre and Sofie Vernen, the oldest of five children. His father was a lawyer. Verne spent her childhood with her parents on the island of Loire River. The secluded location helped strengthen his imagination and bond with his younger brother Paul. At the age of nine, they were sent to a nursery school in Nantes. There he studied Latin, among other things.
